Caring Citizens

As a caring community of Christian people, First Lutheran teaches a responsibility to be caring citizens of our community and of the world. Students are encouraged to go out into the world to recognize the needs of others and provide support where needed.

Students accept this responsibility in a variety of ways:

Chapel Donations

Each week at chapel, students make a donation to support a charitable organization selected each quarter by the seventh and eighth-grade students on the LEAD student council. Chapel donations have gone to meet diverse needs from helping victims of disasters in Philippines, Japan and Haiti to promoting clean water supplies in developing countries to supporting the fight against cancer. The student council has also partnered with the Inspire Creativity Initiative to collect school supplies for students in rural China, hosted bake sales for our sister school in El Salvador and made and sold friendship bracelets to raise money and awareness for leukemia research.

Caring Projects

Students join with their classes to reach out to help many in need. Classes donate and deliver meals and gifts to families in need during the holidays. They deliver toys, pajamas and blankets to hospitalized children and collect canned goods for the local food pantry to feed the homeless and others in need.
